On mild days, Western Diamondbacks can be found coiled in the shade of bushes or cactus. They usually remain motionless when encountered, probably to avoid detection, but will rattle a warning and move into a striking position if they sense danger to themselves. This rattler was photographed near Perry Mesa (near Sunset Point).
